On my trip to Kanab in June, I had a lovely dinner with friends – both human and feline! One of my dining companions knows so much about the cats at Best Friends and we have great discussions about the cats.
Knowing my interest in Tiger, we began discussing his weight problem and his social issues. Robin and I commented that his woes seemed all the more magnified since he was scarred from being abandoned by his family.
“Tiger wasn’t abandoned by a family.”
“Yes he was. That’s what it says on his intake paperwork.”
“No, Tiger was a feral cat rescue.”
And then we learned Tiger’s true story…
Tiger was born in a feral cat community. He lived there with his sister and mother and of course other feral, stray and abandoned cats and kittens.
The caregiver of the community said that Tiger was one of the more social kitties. He would come up to her and rub her legs at feeding time and would let her pet him.
For a reason I do not know, the cat community was no longer a viable option for Tiger and his family and they were rescued by Best Friends. Yes, Tiger was brought to Best Friends along with his mother and sister.
According to the cat care givers at Mondrian’s where they lived, Tiger’s mother and sister were very unsocial. Although Tiger was fearful, he was more approachable than them.
Tiger made fast friends with one of the other cats and they were inseparable…until Tiger’s weight became an issue and he was moved up to Rescue Village.
